Learning about time

Last Friday we looked at duration of time. We compared the following lengths of time:
1 minute
5 minutes
10 minutes
We started off by running around the playground for 1 minute. We used a sand timer to measure 1 minute. Children couldn't believe how quickly the timer ran out. We then used the 5 minute timer and walked around the school field and grounds until the timer ran out. Children felt that 5 minutes was quite a long time. We then used the 10 minute timer and saw how many playground games we could play before the timer ran out. We managed to play 2 games of 'stuck in the mud', a game of 'What's the time Mr Wolf' and a game of 'Sly Fox'. Children decided that 10 minutes felt like a long time. Here are our photos.

This sounds like a great way to find out about time, Reception!
