This week we have been learning about pirates. The children have learnt lots of facts about pirates, learnt how they speak and what they used to say.
They also decided that they wanted to create a huge pirate ship in the outdoor classroom.
Children chose to use crates, planks, wooden and plastic blocks to create their pirate ship. Next they found a steering wheel that they decided to add to the ship too. Then they wanted to create a sail. Children found sheets, poles, rope and pegs to create their sail.
But there was a problem....... the sail would not stand up! They tested various ways of keeping the sail upright and eventually they worked out that the base had to be heavy. They decided to fill up a huge plastic tub with sand from the sand pit. The children cheered when they finally managed to stand their sail up in the tub.
Well done children!
We are so impressed with your ability to solve problems, work collaboratively and use your own initiatives.
We hope you enjoy these photos.
