The children are constantly learning a lot through play such as
Social and Communication skills.
They learn how to deal with conflicts and how to share and take turns without direct supervision.
Recently Ladybird class have taken an interest in the number tiles, they often play schools and have been ordering and recognising their numbers beyond 20.
At the writing table several children asked for bingo cards and so have been playing bingo with high frequency and CVC words.
Whilst playing with the trains many of the boys were problem solving. They had to think about how to use the space, the environment around them and tried with different ways of making tunnels.
By playing shops children become familiar with the language of money and count coins to make amounts.
The also recognise the numbers on the coins and begin to combine amounts to make totals.
While experimenting with materials outside the children are gaining an understanding of forces and weight as well and discussing the properties of the materials themselves.
These are just a few examples of the value of play in the Early Years, and we've had lots of fun too!
